Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>In a bid to fight crime Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) has donated security tools to Mapetla community where the university\u2019s permanent site is situated, this comes after a series of criminal activities in that village.<\/p>\n

The security tools are six walkie talkies and six high beam torches that will be used by the existing Community Policing members. Speaking at the handover ceremony, LUCT Vice Chancellor Adv Tefo Macheli informed that he is proud to be working with Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) saying they approached the university for assistance.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt should be clear that this initiative was not particularly intended for protecting the university, rather for protecting the whole community. The university will be constructed in less than four years, and soon there will be a sod turning ceremony.<\/p>\n

I therefore inform the community to work hard in protecting this community as people will be employed during the construction hence I urge each one of you to protect this community as it holds a great investment opportunity for you.<\/p>\n

We also have a number of plans and projects that we will run at Mapetla,\u201d Macheli informed. Assistant commissioner of Police Ezekiel Senti applauded the University for their initiative.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the assistance of the business community, we are willing to buy more equipment including handcuffs and other useful materials not only for this community but for other communities as well, especially those that show dedication and commitment to protect their communities,\u201d Senti indicated.<\/p>\n

\u201cCrime deteriorates the country\u2019s economy, LUCT is yet to be located in this area, if this community will destroy some of the equipment and other useful materials in school that means we will lose a lot as the country, it will hinder and delay great part of the higher learning institution,\u201d Senti advised.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Community Policing Secretary Thabang Maphaha stipulated that the forum was formed following a number of criminal iactivities that occurred in their village.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn an alarming incident, M37, 000 was stolen from the shop and no one was arrested, we were provoked by an incident whereby these perpetrators stole M150 000 cash from one resident, that is when we decided to guard our community, however we had no equipment especially reliable cellphones with airtime for communicating thus we are grateful that the university has provided us with such useful tools, we are more determined to serve our community,\u201d Maphaha said. He noted that they work in together with Lithoteng Police to fight the rapid crime that has taken a toll on their community.<\/p>\n
