Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Development Planning Hon Selibe Mochoboroane has officially launched the second National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS<\/p>\n

II) 2022\/23 \u2013 2026\/27 last Wednesday. It will provide capacity to produce, disseminate and mainstream the use of statistics in all sectors of the economy.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the launch, the Minister highlighted that the NSDS II has been formulated over the last two years by Lesotho Bureau of Statistics (BOS) with support from<\/p>\n

Partnership for the Development of Statistics in the 21st Century (PARIS21) and the United Nations Regional Coordinating Office (UNRCO). Mochoboroane mentioned that statistics are a vital part of the development of<\/p>\n

any country, and Lesotho is no exception. He said as the need for data continues to increase with adoption of more development commitments by the Government of Lesotho, the NSDS II provides a plan for developing capacity to<\/p>\n

produce, disseminate and mainstream the use of statistics in all sectors of the economy. \u201cI am informed that the NSDS II has been designed in line with the data<\/p>\n

requirements, and other frameworks such as the African Union Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Agenda 2030, to ensure that the development of statistical<\/p>\n

capacity in the country responds to the development agenda in policy making. These require regular, timely, accurate, and disaggregated information to<\/p>\n

measure their effectiveness,\u201d he said. Mochoboroane commended BOS for the excellent work they have done in championing production of this strategy and the ministries, departments and agencies, development<\/p>\n

partners, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the academia as well as the private sector, for their invaluable participation and contribution in the design of this important statistical strategy.<\/p>\n

The United Nations Resident Coordinator Amanda Khozi Mukwashi indicated that without data, statistics do not have the tangible evidence of where the gaps are, what<\/p>\n

needs to be invested in and where efforts need to be made. She congratulated the Ministry and the BOS for strategizing development for statistics. She encouraged everyone to contribute<\/p>\n

in production of good quality data. Highlighting the key factors of Lesotho\u2019s NSDS II, PARIS21 Policy Analyst Paz Patino said the NSDS II will focus on mobilization of 13<\/p>\n

Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) besides BOS, including strong commitment to implementation through cost action plans, strong focus on foundational<\/p>\n

infrastructure that can improve data collection and dissemination, respond to data demand from Lesotho\u2019s National Strategic Development (NSDP II) 2018\/19-2022\/23, SDGs and other regional commitments, as well as making sure that gender is mainstreamed across the NSDS action plans and highly visible areas.<\/p>\n
