Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Tourism Environment and Culture, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs with the support of the Lesotho National Olympic<\/p>\n

Committee (LNOC) will embark on a cleaning campaign, in commemoration of world clean-up day \u2013 19th September. Speaking at the press conference held at the National State Library on Monday the<\/p>\n

Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs Hon. Tsoinyane Rapapa presented the government\u2019s speech pertaining to world clean-up day celebration,<\/p>\n

highlighting on the purpose and responsibilities of LNOC and the duo ministries that aligned together to pursue the work. He revealed that the government of<\/p>\n

Lesotho under the leadership of Prime Minister (PM) Dr. Moeketsi Majoro is worried about the dirty streets \u2013 even the villages, hence the preparation for<\/p>\n

a massive cleaning campaign around the country. \u201cThis project occurs at the right time when the world is engaged in commemorating World clean-up day. Over a long period of time, there has been an outcry heard<\/p>\n

from various sectors leading environmental cleaning including LNOC, which appeared in the Lesotho state of environment outlook report document of 2014,\u201d<\/p>\n

said the Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs. Rapapa also indicated that this is inspired by PM\u2019s speech headed, \u201cPlans of the newly coalition Government of<\/p>\n

Lesotho\u201d which urged the nation to think on what to do to keep the environment clean, calling upon participation of youth, business owners and those who can join in this<\/p>\n

effort. He also said the intention of this venture is to stimulate the fame of Basotho as a nation known for cleanliness. The campaign will be officially launched on September 18th 2020 at Pitso<\/p>\n

Ground where all people are expected in multitudes well prepared to clean the country. \u201cAfter this short service, it is anticipated that people will part ways to clean other<\/p>\n

selected areas in Maseru. This will be followed by campaigns in different districts with programs to be arranged by the government. The duo ministries in<\/p>\n

collaboration with LNOC will work together with numerous organizations in future to keep Lesotho clean and implement the oath taken by the country with<\/p>\n

reference to the United Nations (UN) goal for \u201cSustainable cities and environment,\u201d Rapapa concluded. Meanwhile LNOC Deputy President Tlali Rampooana stated that the LNOC made a vow to confirm<\/p>\n

that the country operates under a good environment and it is assigned to contribute to the achievement of such operations. \u201cLNOC engaged in a conversation with the Ministry of Tourism Environment and Culture,<\/p>\n

which is mandated for activities of cleaning the environment among others. Coincidentally, LNOC found the ministry already working on the same project then joined forces,\u201d<\/p>\n

Rampooana said. Speaking on behalf of his ministry, the Minister of Tourism Environment and Culture Adv. Lekhetho Rakuoane indicated that the overall plan for cleanliness and<\/p>\n

environment security was initiated by the ministry but they only act as guards of the environment while the accountable parties upon this plan are councilors<\/p>\n

and chiefs who fall under the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs. \u201cIn particular we appeal to the business sectors to be on the forefront together with others sectors like taxi owners and street vendors. We are going to sign a memorandum of understanding with these stakeholders,\u201d Rakuoane added.<\/p>\n
