Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC) will represent Lesotho at The Association for International Sport for All (TAFISA) global world walking day commemoration<\/p>\n

on October 4th. According to LSRC\u2019s press release as at 09th September, TAFISA is a leading international Sport for All organization, privileged to bring joy, health,<\/p>\n

social interaction, integration and development to communities and citizens around the globe through the promotion of Sport for All and physical activity.<\/p>\n

It aims to create a better world by unfolding the potential of Sport for All and physical activity globally and maximizing its contribution to overcoming<\/p>\n

the world\u2019s global challenges. This year, the TAFISA World Walking Day \u2013 24 hours across the globe invites people to stand together against the global crisis which impacts the whole world.<\/p>\n

The event will commence on October 4th 2020 where people and organizations will pass the baton across all time zones from east to west to celebrate the power of sport and physical activity in unifying the world during<\/p>\n

the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. The statement partially noted that, \u201cdefeating this pandemic is only possible if we stay connected and present a united front.<\/p>\n

\u201d LSRC Programs Officer \u2018Malitsietsi Zwakala, speaking in an exclusive interview with Informative<\/p>\n

Newspaper indicated that this is the first time LSRC participates in TAFISA sports events recommended by the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5, therefore LSRC captured the initiative to connect and<\/p>\n

work together with National Sports Federations, women, children, youth, people living with disability, hiking groups, community Sport for All groups, families, organizations and individuals, creating awareness of Sport for All<\/p>\n

and physical activity as well as paving way to getting the movement organized in Lesotho. She revealed that she took an online certified leadership course for all as organized<\/p>\n

by TAFISA in collaboration with AUSC Region 5 beginning July 15th to September 12th 2020. She said the course was aimed to equip recreational sports coordinators with relevant skills and competencies to<\/p>\n

effectively deliver community based sport for all programs as recreational sports were just happening without being recognized, saying this idea will transform sports structure in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis relay will be virtual, participants will register online on the TAFISA website<\/p>\n

to participate and receive the passing baton as a printed document to be distributed by LSRC to those who will take part in world walking day event. Participants<\/p>\n

will play this relay in their own languages to pass the message and spread the awareness through LSRC communication channels,\u201d Zwakala explained. As also stated in the press release, \u201cthe event aims to be the most accessible and<\/p>\n

inclusive 24 hours relay around the globe. Anyone can join using their favourite active movement [walking, running, cycling, swimming, canoeing, skateboarding, climbing, horse riding, surfing, etc] and sharing photos and<\/p>\n

videos, passing a baton on social media with a #worldwalkingday. \u201d People are invited to register their participation for free on the TAFISA website and<\/p>\n

receive resources and support to be part of the global event. Zwakala stressed that the event will be virtual to observe Coronavirus (COVID-19) protocols.<\/p>\n

She further showed that after completion of this activity, LSRC will form community sports clubs to mark the country\u2019s participation in the TAFISA world walking day.<\/p>\n

TAFISA has over 360 member organizations in more than 170 countries in all continents, it actively cooperates with other global change makers, including the United Nations<\/p>\n

(UN), World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Educational, Scientific<\/p>\n

and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE) and others, in their<\/p>\n

mission to create a better world. It was founded in 1991 in Bordeaux as a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization according to German law, and registered at the law court in<\/p>\n

Frankfurt, Germany. Over the past three decades, millions of participants have taken part in 160 countries. In 2020, the event becomes TAFISA World Walking Day<\/p>\n
