Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Lesotho military continues to excel in resisting and overcoming crime that seems to be entrenched in numbers, by teaching Basotho children the benefits of patriotism and abstaining from crime.<\/p>\n

law in schools across the board, in the form of debate competitions. The competition started in September last year and ended on the 8th of April last year at Holy Trinity Quthing High School.<\/p>\n

The Lesotho military conducted the competition after realizing that the issue of numbers was not in the shadows, and it continued to spread to many cities and districts in the country.<\/p>\n

It was there that the military eventually went to high schools in the country to raise awareness and educate children on issues of crime and patriotism.<\/p>\n

In an interview with the facilitator and negotiator, Lieutenant \u2018Mamofokeng Masheli explained that the competition started last year in September where they have already visited schools within the Maseru, Mafeteng and Leribe districts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have now extended our tour to southern schools such as Quthing, Mohale’s Hoek and Qacha’s Nek where we have just finished competing in Quthing district with nine children from nine schools within the district.<\/p>\n

These children were given the opportunity to research the challenges they face as teenagers. And we have given them an article to discuss in order to explain the benefits of patriotism.<\/p>\n

We gave them this article after we taught them about patriotism and leadership, \u201dhe said. He added that the competition was for third to fifth form children, while in some schools it was for third to fourth form students.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the main reason for choosing such children is because the children now have a special sense of right and wrong, and they are making decisions based on their preconceived notions.<\/p>\n

Masheli concludes that these competitions help children to take responsibility as patriotism helps children to have a clear vision of what they can do to grow the country.<\/p>\n

In the competition the students received prizes in all nine of them, while the top-ranked, first to third-place winners received prizes from competition sponsors Vodacom Lesotho (VCL).<\/p>\n

, Alliance Insurance, KFC and independent traders in Quthing district. The first source received a gift of a cell phone, M1000 from VCL, KFC Wise 3 and a t-shirt from Alliance. The three judges received the same prizes but the second received M750 from the Alliance, while the third received M500 from the Alliance.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Quthing District Governor Ms Mapaseka Khesa Masopha expressed her satisfaction with the work done by the Lesotho Armed Forces, saying through it the number criminality would stop.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe realized that even in schools this issue of numbers is happening, as there was a time when Mphaki High School was on fire, and after further investigation it was discovered that I was the one with the children. the number who committed such an act, \u201dhe said.<\/p>\n
