Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>You cannot make this up. Sam Matekane\u2019s Revolution for Prosperity (RP) is yet to contest any election but already has seats in parliament. Those two seats belongs to Limpho Tau, the leader of the Democratic Party of Lesotho (DPL), who has announced that he is crossing the floor to Matekane\u2019s party and Tlohelang Aumane of the Alliance of Democrats (AD).<\/p>\n

Tau said the whole DPL is folding into the RFP. Phew! You heard that right. A five-year-old party is allowing itself to be swallowed by a party barely a month old.<\/p>\n

Tau is now touting DPL members to the RFP in the next election. The party will not field any candidates. Tau said the reason for this unusual decision is that his party shares the same mission and motto with the RFP.<\/p>\n

Muckraker\u2019s first reaction to that announcement was to roll with laughter. But she then realised that there are fundamental issues at play here. There is a method to that decision.<\/p>\n

The DPL was a nonentity from the onset. That it got a seat is due to the so-called proportional representation electoral system that rewards losers and mediocrity.<\/p>\n

Were it now for that system, the DPL would not even be allowed anywhere near the vicinity of parliament. Tau and his people are therefore abandoning their ship because it was going to sink anyway.<\/p>\n

His crossing is unsolicited and so is the decision to jump onto Matekane\u2019s wagon. Of course, Matekane will give them a lift because they are political hobos.<\/p>\n

An admission of failure as a political leader doesn\u2019t come this naked. Tau is openly admitting that he was masquerading as a political leader. He knows he has no capacity to lead the party to any success in the next election.<\/p>\n

He doesn\u2019t believe in himself as a leader. But you have to admire Tau for his foresight to understand that he is a political disaster waiting to happen.<\/p>\n

He would rather be a rank and file member of Matekane\u2019s party than be the leader of his political hovel called the DPL. It takes guts to admit your limitations as a leader. For that, Muckraker will spare the rod and wish Tau well in his new political ship.<\/p>\n
