Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Medical professionals have reported that the risk of succumbing to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) increases with age with older adults at higher risk. This however, has not been the case with Sister Maria Fatima of the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa in Hlotse, Leribe. Informative Newspaper had, on Thursday visited Berea Government Hospital following the news of an old aged<\/p>\n

patient who braved the fatal virus. Born in 1924, Sister Fatima is reported to have been taken to the Berea Government Hospital, which is tasked by the government to treat the COVID-19 patients, after her<\/p>\n

oxygen saturation was reported to be below the \u201cnormal,\u201d that is below 90 per cent. According to Berea medical practitioner who was alleviating her, Dr.<\/p>\n

Lefokase Khasoane, the senior citizen\u2019s life improved steadily throughout the treatment. Dr. Khasoane said they administered the supplements and oxygenated her, after which she<\/p>\n

responded well to the treatment. Sister Fatima is said to have been discharged from the hospital to the convent where she was receiving professional care.<\/p>\n

Her medical team of professionals included a professional nurse and the physiotherapist. Her nurse, Sister Cecilia Monyaolo said she was admitted from August 7 to 10.<\/p>\n

She said it was on August 18 when she was certified COVID-19 free by the Berea facility. Reacting to these news, Dr. Khasoane expressed joy for the results of<\/p>\n

their work. \u201cIt is an honour and it has filled us with hope,\u201d she said. She further urged the old persons to go to hospitals immediately when they notice unfamiliar<\/p>\n

signs in their bodies, more so, those with chronic illnesses. She appealed that they observe COVID-19 preventive protocols such as wearing masks and regular<\/p>\n

washing of hands with running water for about 20 seconds. For her part, Sister Fatima said she cannot remember what happened that led her to be admitted at the facility.<\/p>\n

Seemingly with the less recollection of events, she said she is feeling \u201cbetter,\u201d at the present moment. Addressing the weekly COVID-19 country\u2019s progress report, the National COVID-19<\/p>\n

Secretariat (NACOSEC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Thabo Khasipe said the country is \u201csurging towards the peak. \u201d According to the World Health Organization (WHO) Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses<\/p>\n

which may cause illness in animals or humans. In humans, several coronaviruses are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle<\/p>\n

East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The most recently discovered coronavirus causes coronavirus disease COVID-19.<\/p>\n

This virus first broke out in the province Wuhan in the city of Hubei in China and has surged throughout the world. After being the last African country which was virus free, Lesotho first reported the case<\/p>\n

of COVID-19 on May 13. The infection rate had since increased. On July 9 the country recorded the first death of COVID-19. As at August 19, Lesotho had tested 12, 682 specimens, recorded 996 positive cases, 472 recoveries and 30 deaths.<\/p>\n
