Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Rotary Club of Maloti achieved yet another massive milestone by donating books to four schools in Maseru on Wednesday. This is in celebration of September, a \u201cBasic Education<\/p>\n

and Literacy month\u201d. The donation is part of a global move by Rotarians, in an effort to promote basic education and literacy. According to Rotarians, a happy educated child creates a wiser happy world to live in. Speaking at the handover ceremony at Life High School, the Rotary Club of Maloti President Yande Mothae stated that their charitable initiative of donating books helps them achieve their goal<\/p>\n

of having bright and educated future leaders. She said books are essential tools in life because reading quenches the thirst for knowledge. \u201cThrough books one<\/p>\n

is able to learn about how things work, understand different cultures and comprehend the history and more importantly, reading enhances language skills<\/p>\n

and development of fluency, allowing one to express their thoughts and ideas better,\u201d she insisted. Mothae said their books are of great quality and encouraged the recipients to impart the love for<\/p>\n

reading as a norm to their students. She also highlighted that each school received 5 boxes of books from the 60 boxes collected. Adding that their main targets are vulnerable communities and schools.<\/p>\n

Rotary Director of Services Projects Tlhako Mokhoro said they are donating books to motivate the creation of libraries both in communities and schools.<\/p>\n

The books were given to Methodist High School, Lithabaneng Primary School, St. Angela Orphanage and Life High School. Rotary Club of Maloti last week also donated<\/p>\n

educational books to the newly launched library at Mpharane in Mohale\u2019s Hoek. Mpharane Community Library was founded by Mothae Moletsane, who contacted the Rotary<\/p>\n

Club of Maloti for provision of books. During the hand over in Mohale\u2019s Hoek, Yande passed her special thanks to Mothae Moletsane for facilitating the opening of the<\/p>\n

library and urged the community to take care of it for the benefit of future generations. She also acknowledged the partners in Australia \u2013 Books for Lesotho, who donated the books that were given to schools in the area and the<\/p>\n

library. For his part, Moletsane, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Rotary Club of Maloti. He said they have hope that the library will bring a bright future to the community of Mpharane and urged his<\/p>\n

community members to use it accordingly. One of the beneficiaries, Mount Camel High School Principal Lelingoana Moroke thanked Moletsane and the Rotary club of Maloti for<\/p>\n

assisting with books and the library. He said the library gives an opportunity for students to excel in their studies, pointing that they are responsible for<\/p>\n

75% of their work while teachers cover only 25%. In her remarks, Rotary Club of Maloti District<\/p>\n

Governor Maud Boikanyo said Rotary is an organisation that provides humanitarian aid to those less fortunate. \u201cSince its inauguration in Lesotho, Rotary Club of Maloti has done various projects for communities throughout the<\/p>\n

county,\u201d she informed. Boikanyo explained that at Rotary, they focus on seven thematic areas, which are water and sanitation, economic and community development, maternal and child health, supporting the environment, basic education and literacy, disease prevention and treatment and peace and conflict prevention and resolution.<\/p>\n
