Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Health is committed to promote, prevent, cure, rehabilitate and control diseases at all levels with special focus on primary health care, nurses and midwives as the centre of this commitment.<\/p>\n

This was said by deputy health minister Dr \u2018Manthabiseng Phohleli at an event to mark the end of a three-year campaign to elevate the status of nurses across the globe.<\/p>\n

\u201cNurses and midwives in Lesotho, like in many countries across the world, constitute the largest number of the health professionals. In Lesotho nurses and midwives are at 33 percent of health workforce and perform 90 percent of health services,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, it can only be true that strengthening quality nursing and midwifery workforce through media participation will yield positive health outcomes, hence the need for all governments, line ministries to play their roles in ensuring that as a country we really invest in these cadres, and these efforts cannot be realized if media is left behind\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe year 2020 marks the end of the of the three years Nursing Now Campaign which was intended to escalate the status of nursing profession \u2013 and again 2020 is earmarked as the \u2018Year of the nurse and the midwives\u2019 as announced by the World Health Organisation honouring the 200th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.<\/p>\n
