Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Matlapane Ha-Oni community says they are concerned about the gravel road in the area which appears to have been damaged and puts school children and residents in danger during heavy rains.<\/p>\n

King of Matlapane Ha-Oni King Maama Mokhachane, in an interview with Voice of the Nation, pointed out that the road was damaged in some respects and caused great inconvenience as it put the children of Matlapan and Samaria primary schools at risk as it contained there is a wetland that holds water.<\/p>\n

He said this makes it difficult for school children and adults to cross over when they have to carry out their various responsibilities. Maama pointed out that here where the water stands there has been no danger.<\/p>\n

He expressed fears that there might be problems with the area later, which could be very dangerous for school children as they always have to take off their shoes when crossing to school and this can cause them to fail to reach school or to be swept away by floods during severe floods that may result from climate change.<\/p>\n

“This approach is not the responsibility of the local government council, it is directly accountable to the government. We have been to several offices responsible for filing the complaint but have not received any assistance.<\/p>\n

We as a community plan to rectify this situation because we have not received any promise that this road may eventually be repaired where it has a problem, \u201dMaama said.<\/p>\n

He said among the other improvements that they were making as a community was the integration of the city’s access roads which they were preparing with their own hands.<\/p>\n

Asked what the improvements were in the city, Maama pointed out that it was an electrical connection, while the need for water was still scarce in some parts of the city as in several areas he had already joined the Project.<\/p>\n

both the Lesotho Lowlands Water Development Project (LLWDP) Phase II water supply and is in short supply on a small part of the city. \u201cAt the moment we are in the process of cleaning up the stadium and Matlapane Primary School because this is where this community service is usually held.<\/p>\n

“I often discipline and remind my people that it is better for us to make improvements ourselves because if we do not do it ourselves no one will do it for us,” said Maama.<\/p>\n
