Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>MIET Africa through their programme \u2018Futurelife-Now\u2019 donated food parcels to 10 secondary schools in the districts of Maseru, Leribe, Mafeteng and Berea on Thursday.<\/p>\n

MIET Africa is a forward-thinking non-profit making African education organization that aims to improve the lives of children and youth through supporting the<\/p>\n

provision of quality education for all. MIET Africa works through its branch called Futurelife-Now programme that builds on the successful care and support<\/p>\n

for Teaching and Learning. The food parcels included 12.5 kg maize meal, 12.5 kg bread flour, 5kg beans and 2litres cooking oil. Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Secondary Education<\/p>\n

\u2018Mabakubung Seutloali said the donations will be offered to 1068 students from the<\/p>\n

secondary schools across the four districts. She further highlighted that the 10 schools were selected by the MoET following MIET Africa\u2019s findings that most<\/p>\n

students from these schools are affected by a number of social issues that included teenage pregnancy, child marriage, sexual abuse among others. \u201cWe then<\/p>\n

worked together with these schools to ensure that the deserving students do receive these food parcels,\u201d she added. Seutloali went on to highlight these food parcels will make a huge difference in the<\/p>\n

lives of the students especially during this time of Covide-19 where many families go to bed with empty stomach. Speaking on behalf of all the 10 schools \u2018Mampota High School Principal Sister Blandina<\/p>\n

Tsibela emphasized that MIET Africa has always been their pillar of strength from 2019. \u201cMIET Africa always comes through for children especially during<\/p>\n

difficult times,\u201d she said. She further added that initially Futurelife-Now wanted to build toilets and install water at the 10 schools but changed plans<\/p>\n

because of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic which has forced schools to close. On behalf of the recipients Refiloe Malingoane from Thetsane High School thanked<\/p>\n

MIET Africa for assisting them with food. Malingoane said Covid-19 has negatively affected their lives. He said they are not even able to do piece jobs to put<\/p>\n

food on the table for their families because of all the restrictions that come with the virus. \u201cI am from a family of six children and both our parents are no<\/p>\n

longer alive. We have been struggling to get food a lot since this pandemic started but thanks to the Futurelife-Now programme we will at least have something to eat this month,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
