Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>To sensitize Basotho on the spread and impacts of the deadly coronavirus (covid-19) pandemic, Basotho youth produced a movie titled \u2018The Days of covid-19\u2019 to be released by end of this month.<\/p>\n

Covid-19 was discovered in China 2019 and has since spread across the world killing thousands of people. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Informative Arts & Lifestyle,<\/p>\n

Director and Script writer of the movie Khotso Mahonko said in February this year they came together as young people and formed an association called \u2018The<\/p>\n

Fight against Coronavirus Initiative\u2019. He said through the initiative they wanted to visit people in their homes; door to door to and sensitize them about<\/p>\n

the highly contagious coronavirus. \u201cHowever our initiative was cut short by the lockdown restrictions imposed by the government of Lesotho in March which forced us to review our door to door<\/p>\n

strategy hence we ended up shooting the movie,\u201d he said. Mahonko said they have already started with the shooting of the movie, which is scheduled for release by end of July 2020.<\/p>\n

But the movie has 25 characters aged 19 to 29 and uses two official languages of Lesotho, Sesotho and English. The plot of the movie is about people first hearing about the deadly virus and<\/p>\n

their struggles in observing World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. It also includes live performances by poets and musicians who perform songs and poems<\/p>\n

with direct relation to covid-19. He further stated that the movie does not instill fear in people but rather focuses on educating people about the virus and ways to adhere to precautionary<\/p>\n

measures put in place by WHO. The \u2018Days of Covid-19\u2019 crew\u2019s biggest challenge as per Mahonko\u2019s sentiments continues to be lack of finances. All expenses within logistics of the production of the<\/p>\n

movie were incurred by the production crew, without a sponsor as they do not have one. He said despite the challenges, once the movie is released they plan<\/p>\n

to donate M300 000 to vulnerable families. According to Mahonko the donation will be generated from the sales of the movie. Actress Thabelang Moetsane explained that being part of \u2018The Days of Covid-19\u2019 crew has<\/p>\n

been an exciting journey for her. Without revealing much of her storyline Moetsane said she plays part of a girl in love with a boy who dies from Covid-19.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be a true actor or actress, one has to express real emotions as in this movie, I<\/p>\n

will have to cry real tears when my boyfriend dies,\u201d she said. She also encouraged people to stay safe and follow WHO precautionary measures against the virus.<\/p>\n
