Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO) Director General (DG) Mahlomola Manyokole, has commended the Prime Minister (PM) Dr. Moeketsi Majoro and his government for showing zero tolerance for corruption. This was after Majoro led his cabinet in the assets declaration activity that happened at \u2018Manthabiseng Convention Centre yesterday.<\/p>\n

Ministers signed declaration forms by DCEO wherein every minister declared all their current wealth that includes cars, sites, houses, bank accounts and balances, businesses, investments and monthly salary<\/p>\n

among other things. The said records will be kept at DCEO and the declaration process is expected to happen annually. Giving his remarks at the event Majoro stated that this activity signified their intentions to<\/p>\n

seriously confront corruption in their regime with a hope to lead Lesotho out of corruption that has turned out to be a pandemic halting the country\u2019s development<\/p>\n

for a long time now. Manyokole commended Majoro for making history in the corruption battle for Lesotho. For the longest time he said DCEO has always been willing to get the cabinet along with all<\/p>\n

government officials declaring their assets before assuming their offices, although it never materialized. This time he said the PM and his government led<\/p>\n

by example hence it will be easy to tackle corruption at the lowest levels of the government. He spoke highly of Majoro\u2019s leadership in the government citing<\/p>\n

that the act was a positive sign towards elimination of corruption in the public service. Next up he said they will implement this process with the principal secretaries and other government officials.<\/p>\n

Now that DCEO knows about the assets in each Minister\u2019s possession he said it will be easy to identify any irregularities in the growth of each minister or official\u2019s wealth<\/p>\n

hence they will start to investigate corruption in any suspicious scenario. One of the cabinet members, Minister of Home Affairs Hon. Motlalentoa Letsosa also highlighted the<\/p>\n

importance of Monday\u2019s activity citing that it will make it easy for corruption to be detected and interrogated. For the longest time he said the issue of<\/p>\n

declaring assets has only been preached and was never practiced, but it finally happened with the new government thereby making history. He stated that declaration of assets is right at the zenith of their coalition government indicating how serious their government is towards corruption.<\/p>\n
