Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba\u2019s suggestion that Lesotho and Swaziland be incorporated into SA has tongues wagging, drawing a response from former EFF MP and actor Fana Mokoena.<\/p>\n

<\/a>The two landlocked countries have strong economic and social ties with SA, with arguments made in the past for the independent kingdoms to be made part of Mzansi.<\/p>\n

Mashaba broached the subject again this week, saying he doesn\u2019t know \u201chow, in particular Lesotho and Swaziland, are not part of SA\u201d. \u201cIt is practically and economically impossible for these countries to survive on their own.<\/p>\n

The elephant in the room: Will the leaders of these two countries accept a proposal to incorporate?\u201d His comments sparked debate, with Mokoena slamming the idea.<\/p>\n

\u201cLesotho fought and won its battles against colonialists differently from how we did it.<\/p>\n

Instead of arrogantly proposing they be incorporated in us, because we think we are better, why don\u2019t we rather propose greater economic participation and sharing of resources between us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the matter was historic. <\/a>Ntate Mashaba. The issue of Lesotho, eSwatini & Botswana is historical rather than economic.<\/p>\n

All our demarcations as colonised Africa are historical. Lesotho and Swaziland were not colonised, but became protectorates. Hence their trajectory was different from ours.<\/p>\n
