According to the statement issued by the Ministry, the Ministry of health National Rapid<\/p>\n<p>Response Team was convened to view the current status in order to develop preparedness plans so as to respond effectively if the disease be detected in<\/p>\n<p>the country. The Ministry advised that those who will travel, should report to a health professional if they have illness during travel or upon return,<\/p>\n<p>including information about all recent travel and immunization history. Also, the Ministry will provide update on the preparedness and response strategies.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has also reported an outbreak of monkey pox in humans in some parts of the world such as Europe, Canada and United States<\/p>\n<p>of America. This is not a new disease as it is endemic in some parts of western Africa and Central African countries. WHO is supporting African countries to strengthen monkey pox surveillance and exercise<\/p>\n<p>response actions. Seven African countries have cumulatively reported to WHO nearly 1400 monkey pox cases (1392 suspected, 44 confirmed) so far this year.<\/p>\n<p>This case count is for the year up until mid-May and is based on preliminary reports. The cases have been reported from Cameroon, Central African Republic,<\/p>\n<p>the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Nigeria, Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone. Monkey Pox symptoms include fever, intense headache swollen lymph nodes, muscle ache<\/p>\n<p>and a rash that blisters and crusts.
