Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>As a way to assist businesses recover from the hard effects of the coronavirus pandemic that led to a month long national lockdown between March and April, the Lesotho Chamber of Commerce<\/p>\n

and Industry (LCCI) on Thursday launched a solidarity fund. Speaking at the launch LCCI Secretary General Fako Hakane stated that the fund is meant to assist vulnerable<\/p>\n

communities. \u201cCountries of the world are grappling with containment measures as well as prevention against the spread of the infection. LCCI therefore saw it fit to establish a<\/p>\n

solidarity fund with a view to assist vulnerable communities, in collaboration with the government,\u201d he said. Hakane says they hope when the time comes, pledges will come quick and fast in order to propel the noble<\/p>\n

gesture. He invited big businesses, organizations of goodwill, associations and individuals to make contributions to the fund. There are already contributions<\/p>\n

coming into the fund. They were presented by the BAM Group of Companies Chief Executive Officer (CEO) \u2018Mamashiya Nt\u0161epeng T\u0161ita Tikiso. Giving her remarks she<\/p>\n

highlighted that the Lesotho business community has been hit hard by this pandemic. As a result she said the country\u2019s already staggering economy has suffered substantially and needs serious mitigations like LCCI\u2019s solidarity<\/p>\n

fund. To get back to normalcy she said it is going to take time and quite an energy. Therefore she called upon all those with means to come forth and make<\/p>\n

contributions to rescue the business. Without business she said there\u2019s no economy driver in any country. Tikiso reiterated that there are various means through which contributions can be made besides money and all<\/p>\n

those are welcome. Already she said there has been support from organizations and individuals. The amount that was already collected she said was M143, 910.<\/p>\n

80 while entities contributed financial support right at the event.<\/p>\n
