Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Basotho youth have partnered with Group II (Pty) Ltd to answer to the global coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic by inventing a sanitizing booth that functions as a cleaning machine.<\/p>\n

The spread of coronavirus world-wide did not only leave the global economy vulnerable, but also opened a room for innovation and creativity. This is seen with a looming growth of masks in the global<\/p>\n

markets where tailors continue to bring about different designs. In the same struggle, Makhabane Letsie and Arnand Calitz, in collaboration with Dr. Motsotuoa Makoa of Group II (Pty) Ltd, designed a sanitizing booth for shopping<\/p>\n

centers, large offices and public transport. Speaking in an interview with Informative Newspaper, Letsie says the national lockdown rendered their welding,<\/p>\n

boiler making and pipefitting company, PALPP Trading, a non-essential service provider, which meant an opportunity to think out of the box. Letsie highlights<\/p>\n

this as a product of incorporated skills. It was built using Letsie\u2019s construction skills while his partner \u2013 an electrician \u2013 designed the internal structure, which operates through sensors.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe contacted Dr. Makoa for advice on appropriate chemicals,\u201d he added. There are specifications as to what kind of chemicals are effective for this machine. He says due to certain<\/p>\n

possible reactions, it is important to, \u201cuse disinfectants that are not harmful to people, animals and the environment,\u201d Makoa specifies that these should not<\/p>\n

be sanitizers or disinfectants that contain harmful substances, \u201calcohol is flammable and may burn other people\u2019s skin, while certain substances may bleach<\/p>\n

fabrics\u201d he adds. Letsie also urges people to bring forth creative ideas to jointly combat the pandemic. \u201cIt all takes believing in yourself. Lesotho is mostly undermined as a small country, its about time we demand our space in the technology and innovation industry,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
