Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Lesotho Off-Road Association (LORA) on Tuesday handed out food and essentials\u2019 parcels to 100 needy households in five villages of Ha Semione, Ha Ntahli, Ha<\/p>\n

Khanyetsi, Likotopong and Ha Monyane \u2013 all in the Makhaleng Constituency, Maseru. When delivering the packages, LORA Chairman Tubatsi Kuoe noted that, with assistance from regular participants of<\/p>\n

their rallies, it was vital for his association to land a helping hand during this period when this pandemic has wrought havoc on the country\u2019s economy,<\/p>\n

leaving many faced with unprecedented uncertainties. The packages delivered include maize meal, cooking oil, salt, sugar, beans, soya mince and washing<\/p>\n

powder. He highlighted that the act was a token of appreciation to the people of Makhaleng for their cooperation and support during rallies. \u201cSince our association is<\/p>\n

non-profit-making, we\u2019ve been assisted by the bikers normally seen passing around this area,\u201d Kuoe said. \u201cWe\u2019ve been donating items such as blankets and<\/p>\n

school shoes to members of some villages in this community in the previous years, but we decided to offer food parcels in the wake of Covid-19 since scores<\/p>\n

of Basotho across the country have been negatively affected by its aftermath. The cooperation you\u2019ve been giving to our bikers over the years has been<\/p>\n

tremendous, so we\u2019re giving back to say \u2018thank you\u2019. \u201d Speaking at the event, President of Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC) Jobo Raswoko praised the<\/p>\n

villagers for being fortunate and urged them to encourage their children to participate in sports because of the unity brought by sporting activities.<\/p>\n

He stressed that the gesture of LORA was an invite for more cooperation from the community during the rallies. \u201cSport associations unite the nation in various ways, and today we have come together because of LORA,\u201d said<\/p>\n

Raswoko. \u201cEven when there are disputes, sports unite us to rejoice and celebrate together. In this area we\u2019re not meeting for the first time; we met during the rallies.<\/p>\n

This act requires you to go all out and encourage your children to respect the bikers \u2013 encourage them to take part in sports. Among many villages faced with starvation, you have been fortunate to be selected.<\/p>\n

\u201d On behalf of the recipients of food parcels,<\/p>\n

\u2018Mamoeketsi Nkhahle said she was lost for words to express her delight. She wished<\/p>\n

best of luck to LORA officials along with their families, citing the power of God as a driving force behind the act of giving. \u201cWe\u2019re very humbled and grateful for<\/p>\n

the gift,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m unable to express how blessed we feel that God has guided you to assist us. May the Mighty God stretch his hand and bless you and<\/p>\n

your families for this act. I wish you all the best so that you may keep on assisting those in dire need of help. \u201d Chief Leronte Ramashamole of Ha Semione thanked LORA for the food packages, emphasizing that giving brings<\/p>\n

fortune to the giver. He detailed his initiatives to mobilize his community on the significance of the Roof of Africa rally, along with other races held in<\/p>\n

his area. He said he would continue encouraging children to respect and support the bikers. \u201cThis is a huge gift, and the lord always blesses those who give out,\u201d the Chief said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the very first installment of this race (Roof of Africa) was launched, my father was the one in charge here.<\/p>\n

He used to hold gatherings to teach our people about ways to welcome visitors, especially the bikers. That tradition still lives on up to today. \u201cWe hold about three gatherings in a<\/p>\n

year to sensitize the people on cooperating with the bikers. We show them how to help them with the directions as well as other things they\u2019d need. The<\/p>\n

results of such meetings have been quite good since no biker or tourist has never been attacked around this area. \u201d M50, 000 was set aside as budget for<\/p>\n

this initiative while M10, 000 of it will be directed at renovations at Ha Raboletse High School in the nearby area in the same Makhaleng Constituency, according to LORA.<\/p>\n
