Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Chairperson of the National Emergency Command Centre (NECC) ministerial subcommittee, Chief Thesele Maseribane presented the new mandate to NECC staff<\/p>\n

during a meeting held in Maseru this week. This is according to a statement released by the center this week. Amongst others, the Chairperson instructed the team led by Chief Coordinator Matete \u2018Nena to ensure development of a structure from Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for smooth operation of the center. This he indicated should be done in line with Disaster Management Authority (DMA) Act 1997 and Public Health Order 1979. While the Chairperson applauded the work of various Clusters under NECC including submission of the report to the new government but the center ought to achieve greater strides going forward. \u2018We should enroll a massive test against coronavirus (COVID-19) so as to curb new infections and ensure recoveries,
\nhe stressed.<\/p>\n

NECC which commenced its duties on March 18, 2020 was formed with the intention to support efforts by the Ministry of Health (MoH) geared towards the fight<\/p>\n

against the world wide outbreak. NECC has in existence various Clusters such as security, logistics, communications, analysis and economic to mention but a few.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Maseribane urged all government ministries to intensify the fight against the pandemic by coming up with effective strategies intended to curb the spread of<\/p>\n

the disease. Speaking to Principal Secretaries (PS\u2019s) from all government ministries on Wednesday, Maseribane said it is imperative for government through PS\u2019s to device ways and<\/p>\n

means of preventing infection, educating and easing the socio economic impact of coronavirus on the nation. He added it is high time that PS\u2019s as technocrats have constant engagement with<\/p>\n

their South African counterparts on the proposed partial opening of the South African economy and how it would impact on Lesotho\u2019s fight against coronavirus.<\/p>\n

The meeting was meant to brief Chief Accounting Officers of government ministries on the new government\u2019s stance against COVID-19. Lesotho currently has one active case of coronavirus from the two that were registered<\/p>\n

after the first confirmed person recovered. According to NECC two follow up results were done which came negative. \u201cHis closet family (wife and child) also<\/p>\n

tested negative,\u201d the statement stated. NECC continues to appeal to the nation to observe prevention measures against the disease such as washing hands using soap regularly, wearing of masks as well as observing social distancing rules.<\/p>\n
