Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) has announced about its preparation for the upcoming Transforming Education Summit (TES) which is aimed at mobilizing<\/p>\n

action, ambition, commitment, solidarity and solutions with a view to reimagining, accelerating and transforming education between now and 2030. TES is a summit of Heads of states on Education that will be convened by United States Secretary General, His Excellency Antonio Guterres during the General Assembly scheduled for September 2022 in New York. As revealed by the MoET Principal Secretary (PS) Dr.<\/p>\n

Dira Khama, the summit aims to elevate education to the top of the global political agenda and to maximizing public awareness and engagement. \u201cIt will be convened in the context<\/p>\n

of two deeply interconnected challenges to ensure quality education and lifelong learning for all. First there is a global learning crisis that is depriving hundreds of millions of children, young people, and adults of their<\/p>\n

right to quality education, leaving many of the education related targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) well off track,\u201d he said. He added that the continuing Covid-19 pandemic and the lack of effective measures<\/p>\n

for learning recovery risks is turning this crisis into a generational catastrophe, especially for marginalized and vulnerable groups. He said the learning crisis is part of a broader challenge relating to the ability of conventional education systems to deliver the knowledge, skills and outlooks needed for children, young people and adults to excel in today\u2019s world and contribute to sustainable, healthy and peaceful future. Khama said as part of preparations for TES in September and pre-summit in June, countries are required to undertake national consultations with relevant stakeholders.
\nThe purpose of the national consultations is to ensure meaningful engagement of the full set of stakeholders with the aim to mobilize greater political ambition, commitment, and action to reverse the slide on SDG<\/p>\n

4, re-imagine education and accelerate progress on education and the 2030 agenda,\u201d he said. The stakeholders to be consulted include representatives of Ministry of Education and Training \u2013 Senior Management, Curriculum Developers, District Education Managers, Planners, Statisticians and Finance, other related ministries such as Ministry of Health, Finance, Social Development and Development Planning and Agencies such as Lesotho Revenue Authority (LRA), Teaching Council, Teaching Service Commission and Academia and Teachers Training Institutions. A pre-Summit will be organized in Paris at the end of June 2022 to harness the evolving discussions and generate greater momentum in the lead up to September.<\/p>\n
