According to the Minister of Education and Training Hon. Mokoto Hloaele, the ministry continues to assemble Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be used by teachers, students and selected school staff for good health at primary, secondary and high school levels. This he said is in line with World Health Organization’s (WHO) regulations and recommendations.

Upon completion of preparations process, the ministry will announce a date for school’s reopening. Starting Monday May 10th, tertiary institutions are allowed to set their own dates for reopening, based on each institution’s mandate.
He however issued a warning to the said institutions’ management that they should align themselves with safety recommendations in place. The likes of social distancing, cleanliness and use of hand sanitizers among other things. Hloaele went on to announce that examination funds for junior certificate (JC) and Lesotho General Certificate of Secondary Education (LGCSE) shall be allocated to the Examination Council of Lesotho (Ecol) before June 30th this year.

LGCSE 2020 supplementary examinations are set for the first week of July. Schools’ management is urged to make sure that the number of students in each classroom is not over 30, meaning that where students exceed this number, students should be offloaded to other classrooms. Just like tertiary institutions, these schools are urged to uphold safety recommendations during this COVID-19 global pandemic and local state of emergency. The minister concluded by assuring the nation that the ministry will continue to support education of students who remain home until further notice as it was announced by the PM. This he said, they will do through Television (TV) and radio education programs. He urged all the stakeholders in education to hold hands with the ministry to ensure that the students’ education is rescued.

For More News And Analysis About Lesotho Follow Africa-Press

Africa-Press – Lesotho.
