Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Development for Peace Education (DPE) has embarked on a community outreach programme aimed at sensitizing the public on coronavirus otherwise known as covid-19. The programme kick-started in Berea on Tuesday at Senekane D07 Council. According to DPE Peace Education Researcher Lemohang Molibeli, the training was mainly for community councillors who will then disseminate the information to the rest of the communities. \u201cWe trained them on how the virus is transmitted and how infections and transmissions could be avoided,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She also added that the community councillors were urged to report any person coming from infected countries to the Ministry of Health (MoH). Councillor T\u0161epang Motselekatse confirmed reports of people illegally crossing from South Africa (SA) to villages within his council in Tsereoane. He said their worst fear is approaching people who have been reported because they do not have Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to protect them from getting infected if ever that particular person has the virus. \u201cIf that person has it and I will be talking to him or her without covering myself this means I am at high risk of being infected,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He admittedly emphasized the need for the government to provide councils with PPE equipment. Another concern is of government officials who still cross borders to other countries during this pandemic. DPE worries that they might bring the virus in the country because when they come back, they do not undergo quarantine.
\nSenekane Council D07 Deputy Chairperson Mabusetsa Ntoi said Districts Command Centres need to host workshops for councillors so that they can be educated on COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Ntoi added that they are the ones living in the villages and are expected to spread news about the virus in their villages. \u201cI see people almost every day crossing the lake from SA come into our village ,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

DPE Peace Education Researcher Melida Bohloko said they will provide the documents to the councillors, Chiefs, and Village Health Workers to fill during the time they get a report of someone who entered the village coming from abroad. Bohloko said the document will be filled with the person\u2019s information and this is to help that person so that they can be assisted by MoH,\u201d
