Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Prime Minister (PM) Dr Moeketsi Majoro has launched the construction of Mpilo Boulervard this past Tuesday, which was allocated over M379 million. The main aim of the project is to try control traffic within Maseru City and create a safer, more efficient flow of vehicles and also to properly place government buildings in one area.
\nThe Maseru City Council (MCC) Mayor, Tholang Sefojane said the execution of the construction was faced with a lot of challenges which were resolved in the courts of law.
\nHe further stated that the construction of the road, once complete, will make a great turn over to Maseru City. \u201cWe expect that its presence will also decrease high traffic that was seen in our city,\u201d he said.
\nSefojane noted that they hope that road users will work in harmony with the contractors so that the road can be complete within the set time-frame of three years. The Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Hon.
\nMoshe Leoma said the upgrading of the road was influenced by the number of road accidents occurring within Maseru City on a daily basis and thus they attempt to minimize them as much as possible.
\nHe further said that the new road that was formerly known as Kingsway Relief road will now be named Mpilo Boulervard. The construction of the new road was made possible with funds allocated from the government together with the contribution of Road Fund.<\/p>\n

Leoma said the project will cost the government over M379 million and is expected to take three years. \u201cFor the first year of the implementation of the project, the government has already allocated M120 million each year, Road Fund will make a contribution of M70 million while the remaining balance will come straight from the government.<\/p>\n

\u201d He also added that the project is going to happen in six zones and the areas to be affected will be Mokorotlong, Sefikeng sa Moshoeshoe I, Qhobosheaneng, Maseru district Hospital being the old Queen II, AME Hall and Institute of Extra Mural Studies. The PM said with the set time-frame of the project, the construction will bring solutions to Maseru city. Dr.
\nMajoro added that this has been the longest journey since the conception of the project which was incepted in 2014 and that the project was kicked-off by Maseru Urban Study that made the government aware that they can not only upgrade roads but they also need to have a well-planned town where government offices can be located in one area.
\n\u201cThe project has three purposes, those being construction of roads meant for safety of the nation and road users, relaxation of flow of traffic so that government offices can be more accessible along with other offices and finally, government offices should be placed on one side,\u201d he said. He concluded that the project will also spread to other districts in the country within the set timeframe.<\/p>\n
