Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>As a celebration of African Women’s Month, we are going to look closely at a woman who is a pioneer in being made an Ambassador of the country of Lesotho internationally, and is the first black person to take care of the library (Librarian) in the School NUL is Mrs. Nana Mildred Cecilia Tau.<\/p>\n

In an interview with the Historian Mr. Mahlomola Letsie, on 21 March 1980 during the reign of Prime Minister Leabua Jonathan, Lesotho was the first country in the world to appoint a female ambassador to the United States (USA).<\/p>\n

“This happened when Nana Tau, who is the first woman in Lesotho to be made an Ambassador, stepped into the shoes of Mr. Timothy Thahane who had just been given the job of Deputy Chief Executive. (Vice President) of the World Bank,” said Mr. Letsie.<\/p>\n

“Timothy Thahane also made history in that in 1972 he was only 32 years old and he was made Lesotho’s ambassador to the European Union, then when he was 35 years old In 1975, he was appointed by the World Bank as the director of the World Bank’s affairs in the entire African continent,” he explained.<\/p>\n

Mr. Letsie said Mrs. Tau also made history by being the first Mosotho and the first black person and also the first woman to be appointed as the librarian at the school. (NUL) in the year 1971.<\/p>\n

In the year 2013, the American newspaper called Washingtonian, honored her by including her name in the names of 117 women who it says are giants in the world in terms of management, economy, law, education and artistic issues.<\/p>\n
