Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>T\u0161oeu Mokeretla, the minister of transport, is a cheeky man. And it\u2019s not because someone has stolen his goats or peed in his village well. He is just irritated by the people of Mashai, the very same ones he claims to have been representing in parliament since 2007.<\/p>\n

The people of Mashai have not insulted him. Nor have they committed a major sin to get Mokeretla\u2019s goat. What has got him throwing tantrums is that the people of Mashai are telling him that he has been a pathetic failure.<\/p>\n

A single failure might be a mistake but four times is a habit. He is a certified politician bummer. They say he has been masquerading as their MP for more than 10 years.<\/p>\n

They say he has been sleeping on the job while their constituency suffers. In short, they are saying they are tired of his tall tales and empty promises.<\/p>\n

They, therefore, want a swift divorce from their abusive relationship with him. Mokeretla is however refusing to be divorced. He is kicking and screaming to remain married to the people of Mashai.<\/p>\n

He is now blaming the people for misinterpreting his job. My job is not to develop the constituency, he says. I never promised jobs or roads to anyone, he protests. I am not the government. Leave me alone. My job is to make laws.<\/p>\n

All of which is to say he is no one\u2019s mother or father and those who say he should develop the constituency are either hallucinating or have morsels of manure in their heads.<\/p>\n

Mokeretla has since made it clear that he will be their MP whether they like it or not. Which brings Muckraker to the gist of the story. It\u2019s not that he doesn\u2019t know that he had been selling hot air to his people.<\/p>\n

That is obvious. And his protests have nothing to do with his failure because he knew that he was incompetent even before he was elected in 2007. He is getting angry because he has run out of deceits and false promises.<\/p>\n

He had done it all and tied himself in a web of his deceits. The bill is now due and the man is now like a deer in headlights. His defence is as potholed as the roads he claims to be managing.<\/p>\n
