Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Cuban vice president, INES Maria Chapman Waugh arrives in Lesotho later today on a two-day state visit. According to a press statement released by the Prime Minister\u2019s office yesterday, during her visit to the Mountain Kingdom, Waugh will among others pay a courtesy call on His Majesty King Letsie III, Prime Minister Motsoahae Thabane and speaker of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

The press release says she will also meet both the minister of foreign and international affairs and his health counterpart. Waugh will also be taken on a guided tour at the heritage site of the Thaba-Bosiu Cultural Village, followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the King Moshoeshoe I Statue.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lesotho and Cuba in 1979, the two countries have cultivated warm bilateral relations that have continued to grow from strength to strength, resulting in entering into an Agreement on Cooperation in 2000, which has since culminated into a Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation,\u201d the statement also shows.<\/p>\n

It states that foreign affairs minister Lesego Makgothi visited the Cuban capital city, Havana in 2018 on invitation of his Cuban counterpart. The statement also shows that other high level visits between Lesotho and Cuba have taken place in the past, adding they served to further enhance the relations between both countries.<\/p>\n

Cuba has been assisting Lesotho in various sectors of development, such as health and education as well as scholarships to Basotho students to study in fields including medicine and physical education. As part of the cooperation, currently Cuba is on the verge finalising the deployment of a total 33 medical doctors to Lesotho.<\/p>\n
