{"id":19927,"date":"2022-09-19T07:49:13","date_gmt":"2022-09-19T07:49:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/lesotho\/all-news\/big-blow-for-reforms"},"modified":"2022-09-19T08:55:39","modified_gmt":"2022-09-19T08:55:39","slug":"big-blow-for-reforms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/lesotho\/all-news\/big-blow-for-reforms","title":{"rendered":"Big blow for reforms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Constitutional Court has this afternoon ruled that the decision by King Letsie III to recall parliament to pass the national reforms violated the constitution.<\/p>\n<p>The decision, made by a coram of three judges \u2013 Chief Justice Sakoane Sakoane and Justices Ts\u2019eliso Monaphathi and \u2018Mafelile Ralebese \u2013 is a serious blow to the reform agenda.<\/p>\n<p>The court ruled that the decision by Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro to declare a state of emergency was null and void. The case was filed in the Constitutional Court by journalist Kananelo Boloetse.<\/p>\n<p>The court found that factors that Majoro had relied upon to declare the state of emergency so that the King could have the constitutional grounds to recall parliament were unconstitutional.
