{"id":21674,"date":"2022-11-16T09:36:05","date_gmt":"2022-11-16T09:36:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/lesotho\/all-news\/phafanes-world-cup-appointment"},"modified":"2022-11-16T10:03:11","modified_gmt":"2022-11-16T10:03:11","slug":"phafanes-world-cup-appointment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/lesotho\/all-news\/phafanes-world-cup-appointment","title":{"rendered":"Phafane\u2019s World Cup appointment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Lesotho will be represented by two officials at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>Advocate Salemane Phafane, president of the Lesotho Football Association (LEFA), will serve on the Disciplinary Committee for the upcoming World Cup, while assistant referee Souru Phats\u030coane will officiate matches.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary General Mokhosi Mohapi announced Phafane\u2019s appointment at the association\u2019s 17th Ordinary Congress on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Following a recommendation from Africa\u2019s governing body, CAF, Phafane is already a member of FIFA\u2019s Disciplinary Committee.<\/p>\n<p>The appointment was made official during FIFA\u2019s 71st congress, which was held two years ago at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>This appointment underscores Phafane\u2019s strong leadership of the association as it works to rebuild and develop football in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to being appointed two years ago, his astuteness in football leadership was second to none.<\/p>\n<p>He was considered for a position on one of FIFA\u2019s subcommittees because he previously served on FIFA\u2019s legal committee and as vice-president of COSAFA, Southern Africa\u2019s football governing body, for two terms.<\/p>\n<p>Phats\u030coane\u2019s World Cup assignment concludes an unforgettable year in his career, in which he became the first Mosotho official to officiate in an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final between Senegal and Egypt.<\/p>\n<p>After officiating in the CAF Champions League final and the AFCON final, it was only natural for him to move on to the World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Phats\u030coane had previously officiated in the continental showpiece, making his debut in 2019 in Egypt, and has since become a regular in Africa\u2019s top competitions such as the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/lesotho\">Lesotho<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Lesotho.
