Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The National University of Lesotho (NUL) has ordered students to vacate the campus after a day of intense students unrest. They were demanding their allowances from the National Manpower Development Secretariat (NMDS) two months after renewing their contracts.<\/p>\n

NUL SRC President Tumo Tsanyane said the university had not filed the academic registration list with NMDS hence there is a delay in students allowance payout.<\/p>\n

He said when they enquired when the allowances will be due they were told it will be in November so the students have run of patience since they are dying of hunger. This is why they decided to strike to speed up the process. \u201cI strongly condemn what other students did.<\/p>\n

No student should be out there vandalising the community businesses since those businesses are the ones that make our lives better by providing us with the essential needs,\u201d he said, adding that it is unfortunate that some students can harm other students during such protests.<\/p>\n

More than five students were critically injured during the protest. Tumo said if ever this kind of protest occurs again SRC will work very hard to make sure that things are done diplomatically observing all the laws of the land and making sure that everyone\u2019s safety is a priority.<\/p>\n
