Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>THE All Basotho Convention (ABC) will, starting from tomorrow till Sunday, hold a special conference during which it will examine why it lost heavily in last October\u2019s general election.<\/p>\n

The ABC, which was the biggest party in a coalition government led by Dr Moeketsi Majoro, had 51 seats in the 120 member parliament. That huge number was whittled down to only eight seats.<\/p>\n

The party did not win even a single contested seat last October, a dismal feat for a party that had performed well in every other election since it was formed in 2007.<\/p>\n

The party will seek to carry out a post-mortem of why it performed so dismally during the last elections. The special conference is likely to attract about 1 500 delegates from all the party\u2019s branches in the 80 constituencies.<\/p>\n

The conference will be held at John Mount in Leribe. The ABC secretary general, Lebohang Hlaele, said the purpose of the conference is to look into the issues of the party.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf the critical issues to consider at the conference will be the failure by the party to win even a single constituency in the 7 October election,\u201d Hlaele said.<\/p>\n

He said they will also look into other issues that have haunted the party in the last year. The ABC only managed to win eight Proportional Representative (PR) seats in the last elections.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Sam Matekane\u2019s newly formed Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) won 57 seats and has since formed an alliance with the Alliance of Democrats (AD) and the<\/p>\n

Movement for Economic Change (MEC) to form a coalition government. Hlaele said party delegates who will be attending the conference will be expected to come up with solutions to the problems haunting the party.<\/p>\n

The three-day conference will start tomorrow and end on Sunday morning. Party leader, Nkaku Kabi, will lead proceedings. Hlaele said the Friday session will be closed to the media.<\/p>\n

He said the media will only be allowed into the conference on Saturday to follow the proceedings. He said the conference is also going to look into the operations of the party to find out if it is in line with its constitution.<\/p>\n

He said they have to introspect if their constituencies are still existing and following party directives. Hlaele said it is only after the post-mortem at the weekend when the party will be able to forge a way forward. He said the delegates will be expected to come up with solutions to their problems.<\/p>\n
