Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Dr Rets\u030celisitsoe Matlanyane says the government is looking at the broader areas where the country can collaborate with the Republic of Korea.<\/p>\n

This, Dr Matlanyane said during her meeting with the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Park Heong-joon at Ministry\u2019s premises on Friday.<\/p>\n

She said energy is one key area where the two countries can collaborate, saying generation of clean and climate-friendly energy as well as agro-technology so that they are able to increase their production and be more advance in manufacturing and processing.<\/p>\n

She noted that as they have said infrastructure is key to development and they need to build their infrastructure, noting that climate change has hit the country very hard to the point where the country\u2019s infrastructure has been destroyed so as they rebuild their infrastructure they need advance infrastructure to build new infrastructure.<\/p>\n

She noted that earlier this month when they met with the Korean team, they extended an invite to World Expo, saying that the issue is still under consideration in relation to how Lesotho will be supporting their country.<\/p>\n

The Minister further said Korea is a key partner they would like to partner with going forward, adding that this is a start of a relationship of cooperation that should go forward to discuss in detail where they can better cooperate.<\/p>\n

In conclusion, she said she is pleased to learn that Korea pledged to assist the country in developing the Moshoeshoe I International Airport, noting that it is one of the projects that they want to implement as soon as possible so that they are able to receive visitors but more importantly make it operational for other purposes.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the same meeting, Mr. Heong-joon pledged his country\u2019s commitment to assist Lesotho in developing the Moshoeshoe I International Airport and providing expertise in strengthening Agricultural production.<\/p>\n

Mr. Heong-joon said the Moshoeshoe I International Airport has commercial potential that can boost Lesotho\u2019s economy due to tourism destination. Diplomatic relations between Lesotho and Korea were established in 1966 and the two countries have enjoyed warm and cordial relations characterized by mutual respect and non-interference in each other\u2019s internal.<\/p>\n

Since then the two countries signed the Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement in 1981. The objective of the visit is to improve bilateral relations between the two countries. The Special Envoy\u2019s delegation is made up of 38 people.<\/p>\n
