Africa-Press<\/a> – Lesotho<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Lesotho Weightlifting Federation (LWF) will visit weight<\/p>\n

lifting clubs across all districts to assess the performance level of athletes<\/p>\n

and coaches.<\/p>\n

The move is an effort by the federation to know areas that<\/p>\n

mostly need to be assisted with the sport going forward.<\/p>\n

In an interview with LWF Public Relations Officer (PRO) Anna<\/p>\n

Shale, Informative Sport learned that<\/p>\n

the initiative is also intended to attract new athletes to weightlifting. \u201cWe decided<\/p>\n

to offer training for our coaches at district level as to improve their<\/p>\n

coaching skills. Having weightlifting specialists will influence our clubs at<\/p>\n

the districts and thus more people may be interested to join,\u201d said Shale.<\/p>\n

She added that weightlifting techniques which include;<\/p>\n

lifting an appropriate amount of weight, learning how to do exercises<\/p>\n

correctly, seeking balance while holding the weight and controlling one\u2019s<\/p>\n

breath; these she said are the major factors that athletes should consider. \u201cThe<\/p>\n

first visit will be to Mohale\u2019s Hoek where we will be hosting the tournament at<\/p>\n

Bohomme High School on September 11th, and we decided to simplify<\/p>\n

the work by hosting one tournament where different clubs will show case the<\/p>\n

performance level of their athletes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Shale revealed that the association will host a similar<\/p>\n

tournament at Quthing and Leribe on September 21st and 28th<\/p>\n

respectively. She said these tournaments will also prepare athletes for<\/p>\n

upcoming international games where Lesotho Weightlifting athletes will be<\/p>\n

competing. \u201cThese are the World Youth Championship that is scheduled on the October<\/p>\n

1st to 31st 2021 at Kingdom of South Arabia, Jeddah and<\/p>\n

World Weightlifting Championships which will be hosted at Lima, Peru in<\/p>\n

November 2021,\u201d shale informed.<\/p>\n

She went on to inform that the association has thus far<\/p>\n

registered about eight clubs, four of which are based in Maseru. She said the<\/p>\n

ongoing pandemic was one of the barrier that held LWF from hosting tournaments<\/p>\n

frequently as compared to previous times, in addition to financial constraints.<\/p>\n

Asked about what can be done to improve weightlifting, Shale<\/p>\n

told Informative Sport; \u201cAthletes<\/p>\n

need to be exposed to constant international competitions for all categories \u2013<\/p>\n

both junior and senior players because the atmosphere at international and<\/p>\n

continental competitions is more intimidating and motivating than here at<\/p>\n

home\u201d. She explained that when athletes compete at international and continental<\/p>\n

tournaments, they improve their rankings and the rankings open for more<\/p>\n

opportunities to qualify for Commonwealth games and Olympic games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
