Africa-Press<\/a> – Lesotho<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The National Reforms Authority (NRA) set in motion the validation processes for the amendments of the new bills and proposed bills to the Constitution on<\/p>\n

Tuesday. This transpired during the NRA\u2019s 13th Ordinary Meeting which is anticipated to take three days. According to the authority, these Constitutional Amendments Bills will be submitted to the<\/p>\n

parliament on August 31st. The Chairperson of the NRA Chief Pelele Letsoela urged the members to expedite the process to allow Constitutional framing.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted that they are in the process of engaging the Constitutional expert to help them with framing. For her part, the Constitutional Reforms Committee Chairperson Palesa Ntakatsane said the process<\/p>\n

is the final tune to go to parliament as a report. She said they will be presented such that they will make sense to the parliament. Some of the laws which<\/p>\n

will receive attention during these three days include: floor crossing, term limit for Prime Minister, formation of coalition governments, impeachment of<\/p>\n

the Prime Minister, appointments and removal of security chiefs, national security commission and power to authorize the deployment of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF).<\/p>\n

Ntakatsane said it is expected that they should pass as the nation\u2019s aspirations which are contained in the Multi-Stakeholder National Dialogue Plenary II document.<\/p>\n

NRA is a statutory body which has been established through the NRA Act No. 4, 2019 to \u201cmanage, coordinate and lead\u201d reforms process on the nations aspirations which are<\/p>\n

contained in the Plenary II document. The authority is granted a year to complete this exercise. The 59 member body is charged with the responsibility to implement the reforms in seven thematic<\/p>\n

areas which are: Judiciary, Constitution, Public Service, Economy, Media, Parliament and Security Sector. The authority reports to both houses of parliament (the National Assembly and the Senate).<\/p>\n

The NRA has reported that it has produced 45 Constitutional Draft Bills out of which 31 have been adopted, 14 are still in the committees before being adopted by the plenary.<\/p>\n

Recently the Southern African Development Community (SADC) has during its 41st summit held in Malawi recommended an additional extension of six months of the NRA mandate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
