Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>THE Democratic Congress (DC)\u2019s women\u2019s league says it will rally behind the party leader for the sake of unity. \u2019Mamotseki Sekete was elected the new Women\u2019s League president at an elective conference last weekend.<\/p>\n

Sekete said party members must not allow post-elective disputes to split the party. She said those who had won positions in the league\u2019s national executive committee should be humble enough to serve everyone for the advancement of the party.<\/p>\n

She also said those who had lost should be humble to accept defeat and understand that this is democracy at work, and they should contribute towards the development of the party.<\/p>\n

\u201cElections should not tear us apart because the journey does not end here,\u201d Sekete said.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead we should put the party first,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere there are issues the charter is there to intervene and show us the way forward.
\nThe DC leader, Mathibeli Mokhuthu, said the elective conference was meant to strengthen the women\u2019s league and set a working plan for the entire women folk of the party.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to see this women\u2019s league having ties with similar leagues in other countries to share tips on development,\u201d Mokhothu said.<\/p>\n

\u2019Mathembizile Sibeko, the league\u2019s new spokesperson, said the newly elected committee already has plans on the table that need to be put into action for the benefit of the party.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe faced challenges during the Covid-19 era and when the movements were opened it was already time of the general elections so we failed to develop our plans,\u201d Sibeko said.<\/p>\n

She said they had to campaign because they had to follow the leader for the general elections. \u201cHowever, we will try hard to develop those plans as we were already working on them before elections and Covid-19,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Sibeko said they have plans to hold concerts on the traditional women\u2019s dance and songs called pitiki in Qacha\u2019s Nek, Quthing, Butha-Buthe, and Mohale\u2019s Hoek.<\/p>\n

Entrance takings that will be collected from the concert will be shared between the league and the host constituency on a ratio of 3:7. \u201cThe constituency will be given 30 percent of the proceeds,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Sibeko said since both Mokhothu and the DC founder, Pakalitha Mosisili were born in February the league will celebrate their birthday together every year and use the opportunity to raise funds for the party.<\/p>\n
