Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Prime Minister, Mr. Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane has urged Basotho to abide by cleanliness and keep Maputsoe clean as one of the busiest entry ports in the country.<\/p>\n

Mr. Matekane said this when officially opening \u2018Operation Hloekisa Lesotho\u2019 at Maputsoe in Leribe on Friday. He said Maputsoe has to be kept clean as one of the border posts used by tourists and the business community.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister highlighted that the expectation during the operation until next year is that two towns to accomplish cleanliness will be awarded certificates. He again mentioned that the implementation of Environmental funds, Environmental policing, landscaping and waste sorting will be highly considered.<\/p>\n

In addition, he added that there are already projects carried out by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) which include among others managing waste in Maputsoe.<\/p>\n

Moreover, he said maintaining a tidy environment will help them achieve the best results with such projects. He, therefore, appealed to the Maputsoe community to come up with strategies for maintaining dirt all the time.<\/p>\n

In conclusion, he mentioned that similar events led by Ministers with the assistance of District Administrators are going on in other districts country-wide.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the same event, Minister in the Prime Minister\u2019s office, Mr. Limpho Tau said this is the second month since \u2018Operation Hloekisa Lesotho\u2019 was launched in Maseru.<\/p>\n

He urged the residents to keep the environment clean all the time to avoid infection that spreads diseases. \u201cLet this be a tendency,\u201d he stated. Echoing the same sentiments, a Member of Parliament for Maputsoe constituency, Mr.<\/p>\n

Stephen Mputi said it is the responsibility of every community member to keep the environment clean. He elaborated that a clean environment makes one energetic and attain positive thinking thus producing the best results.<\/p>\n

Mr. Mputi pointed out that the business community should stop throwing expired products all over, as they are a danger to children. In conclusion, he said they appreciate the presence of school children during the operation as they learn cleanliness at an early stage.<\/p>\n

The District Administrator Leribe, Mr. Mohlophehi Mohobelo said cleanliness is important to avoid diseases such as cancer and kidney failure. \u2018Operation Hloekisa Lesotho\u2019 will be conducted every last Friday of the month until next year in March as stated on the schedule.<\/p>\n
