Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Describing wrecks by Tesla\u2019s self-driving vehicles in excruciating detail, a major US newspaper says it\u2019s found that the number of fatalities increased alongside the vehicle\u2019s surging sales.<\/p>\n

Mainstream US media has reported that hundreds of Teslas have been involved in automobile accidents, providing a tally of crashes that exceeds previously reported numbers.<\/p>\n

The US media insisted in an article published Saturday that there were \u201c736 US crashes since 2019 involving Teslas in Autopilot mode,\u201d a number which it claims is \u201cfar more than previously reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe number of such crashes has surged over the past four years,\u201d the outlet maintains.<\/p>\n

The outlet wrote that the figure reflects what they called the \u201chazards\u201d related to the \u201cincreasingly widespread use of Tesla\u2019s futuristic driver-assistance technology as well as the growing presence of the cars on the nation\u2019s roadways.
\nAs the number of Teslas driven across the globe has exploded over the past several years, \u201cthe number of deaths and serious injuries associated with Autopilot also has grown significantly,\u201d the outlet said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen authorities first released a partial accounting of accidents involving Autopilot in June 2022, they counted only three deaths definitively linked to the technology,\u201d the paper wrote, adding that, now, \u201cthe most recent data includes at least 17 fatal incidents, 11 of them since last May, and five serious injuries.
\nThe report further claimed the vehicular fatalities \u201creveal distinct patterns\u201d because \u201cfour involved a motorcycle\u201d and one \u201cinvolved an emergency vehicle.<\/p>\n

\u201d The outlet charges that \u201csome of Musk\u2019s decisions. . . appear to have contributed to the reported uptick in incidents. \u201d<\/p>\n

When challenged on the issue, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has referred to crash rate data that indicates cars using in Tesla\u2019s Autopilot mode are safer than those being driven by humans.<\/p>\n
