That proved true last Saturday when the bank disbursed about M500 000 worth of prizes to 35 individuals who have been using the bank\u2019s mobile wallet application called Khetsi.<\/p>\n

Khetsi gives the bank\u2019s clients access to small interest-free loans.<\/p>\n

The application allows clients to borrow a maximum of M500 from a facility called Nano loans.<\/p>\n

Customers only pay a nominal administration fee.<\/p>\n

The Marketing Manager of Lesotho Post Bank, Tlali Kele, said the competition began on May 17 this year when the product was launched and ended on September 20.<\/p>\n

Kele said the competition was designed to take only three months but they extended it to September so that more people could be included.<\/p>\n

He said the competition included payments for electricity, water, DSTV and Land Administration Authority (LAA) bills through Khetsi.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were looking for people who transacted over M500 for this period of the competition,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Kele said the prize galore included 10 heaters, 10 defy microwaves, three washing machines, a TV set, two fridges, four blankets, four grocery vouchers and Post Bank hampers.<\/p>\n

He said the draw was done through a lottery so that they could give the people the same value without discriminating who transacted more than who.<\/p>\n

He said the competition was a success and all the contestants showed up apart from three people who were due to receive their prizes.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we will continue calling them so that they can receive their rewards too,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Kele said they did this in appreciation to their clients who had committed themselves to using a new product even though they knew very little about how it worked.<\/p>\n

The manager said the response from clients was very positive as they now have 55 000 subscribers.<\/p>\n

Kele said their target is to have 100 000 subscribers by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe now have 150 agents across all the districts except Butha-Butha,\u201d he said, saying they are striving to make in-roads into the district.<\/p>\n

He said Khetsi was launched to make sure every person had access to financial services.<\/p>\n

\u2019Mamaime Motanyane, who won a washing machine, said she started using Khetsi when it was launched in May.<\/p>\n

She said she used it mostly to pay electricity, water and DSTV bills.<\/p>\n

Motanyane said the machine will help lessen the burden of work.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the weekend I have to hire people to do laundry because I am working so this machine is going to save my time and money,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She added that she pays around M200 monthly for people who are doing the laundry.<\/p>\n

Ret\u0161elisitsoe Mohapi from Leribe who won a fridge explained that the fridge is of more importance to him since he stays with his family, a wife and two children.<\/p>\n

He said his smaller fridge had been restricting him from buying monthly groceries in bulk to meet the family\u2019s needs for the month.<\/p>\n
