Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>FIREBRAND Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) MP for Matlakeng constituency, Dr Mahali Phamotse, is in big trouble. Phamotse is accused of disloyalty after she voted against the party\u2019s official position in parliament on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The hearing has been set for Saturday. \u201cYour actions are in violation of the party\u2019s rules and regulations specified in term of rule 13 and rule 8,\u201d the letter reads. Rule 13 underscores the importance of maintaining good conduct or acceptable behaviour as shall be determined by the national executive committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy voting against the party\u2019s position you have displayed a lack of discipline and commitment to the party\u2019s principles undermining its cohesiveness and effectiveness,\u201d it reads.<\/p>\n

Rule 8 says every member should behave honestly and loyally to the decisions of the party. \u201cYour vote against the party\u2019s position demonstrate a clear violation of this rule.<\/p>\n

\u201d She is also accused of inviting opposition politicians to her victory celebration in the constituency earlier this year.<\/p>\n

The letter says Phamotse is fully aware that she is expected to display good behaviour and not breach the RFP constitution and policies to advance her personal popularity or interests.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou conducted yourself in a manner that breaches the trust between you and RFP,\u201d it reads.<\/p>\n

It says she invited the leaders of opposing political parties to her constituency\u2019s thanksgiving ceremony without informing the party leadership or its executive committee, \u201ca direct ridicule of RFP and its leadership\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour conduct aforesaid was improper and you, therefore, committed the disciplinary offence of improper conduct and unacceptable behaviour as provided in the constitution.
\nThe letter, which was signed by secretary general Nthati Moorosi, adds that Dr Phamotse has brought disrepute to the party as in April 2023 following her constituency ceremony at Matlakeng while speaking on Moafrika FM she made utterances that she was voted to be an MP by a handful of members of RFP but the majority of those who voted for her were from the opposition parties.<\/p>\n

The letter said as an MP for the RFP and a constituency candidate she had a legal duty to protect the interest of the RFP and its constitution. It says she owes a duty of good faith to the RFP in the daily execution of her duties to ensure that the party and its constitution are respected and held in high esteem.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou failed to act honestly and in the interest of the RFP, the RFP constitution and its leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201d The hearing is scheduled to start at 12 noon on Saturday. It comes a day after Phamotse and two other RFP MPs voted with the opposition in parliament.<\/p>\n

Phamotse told thepost last night that she had received the letter but said she was yet to study its contents. She said she had not yet decided if she will go to the hearing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will decide after reading the letter thoroughly,\u201d she said. Phamotse has been openly criticising decisions of the party, saying they were not democratic.<\/p>\n
