Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>A few hours ahead of Lesotho\u2019s 57th independence, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is continuing with official announcements of Local Government Elections held countrywide last Friday. Addressing the audience at \u2018Manthabiseng Convention Centre, Maseru on Tuesday, the IEC Chairperson, Mr.<\/p>\n

Mphasa Mokhochane said at Teba \u2013 Teba council Berea, which has 12 electoral divisions, DC won two electoral divisions at 01 and 05, RFP won three electoral divisions namely, 02, 04 and 06 while 03, 09 and 12 were won by independent candidates.<\/p>\n

ABC won four electoral divisions namely, 07, 08, 10 and 11. Therefore, he alluded that special seats here, one goes to ABC, the other to AD while DC and RFP also get a seat each.<\/p>\n

Announcing results for Motanasela council, where there are 12 electoral divisions as well, the IEC Commissioner, Mr. Ts\u030coeu Petlane mentioned that ABC won Motanasela 01, 03 and 08.<\/p>\n

AD won Motanasela 02 and 07, DC won Motanasela 04 RFP won Motanasela 05, 06, 11 and 12 and BAP won 09 and 10. As far as special seats are concerned at Motanasela, there are four seats, which have been shared among ABC, AD, DC and RFP, said Mr.<\/p>\n

Petlane. In another story, IEC Commissioner, Dr Karabo Mokobocho announced six special seats in Senqunyane council where DC obtained three seats and RFP got three respectively.<\/p>\n

At Manka council, there are four council seats which have been shared among ABC and DC and two seats for RFP. In the meantime, Civic Education Manager IEC, Mrs.<\/p>\n

Lydia Macheli also assured the nation that before official publication, the results are also checked thoroughly by the election coordinating committee made up of political parties representatives present at the \u2018Manthabiseng Convention Centre.<\/p>\n

In these elections, IEC has recorded a total of 1, 388, 206 as a total number of voters, with 19.20 percent having been registered as voter turnout while 7, 116 are set to be registered candidates and political parties 51.<\/p>\n
