Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Maluti Mountain Cement (MMC) has launched its inaugural Berea Charity Cup which will feature three teams from Berea as well as Lesotho champions Bantu over the October Independence holidays.<\/p>\n

Lioli, Maroala and Amigos FC are the three Berea clubs that complete the tournament which has been divided into two categories to ensure each team walks away with something in the pocket.<\/p>\n

The two Vodacom Premier League giants \u2013 Bantu and Lioli \u2013 have been pitted against each other while the two lower league upstarts sides will play against each other.<\/p>\n

MMC has pumped over M200 000 into the tournament and the winner between Lioli and Bantu will walk away with M50 000 while the loser will go home with M20 000.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in the game between Maroala and Amigos, the victor will bag M20 000 in prize money with the runner-up consoling themselves with M10 000. MMC was founded in 2018 by the Lephema family which hails from Berea and also owns Executive Transport.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of the company at the launch of the Berea Charity Cup, Lehlohonolo Lephema said MMC is where it is because of people from Berea and now the company is giving back. Lephema said MMC plans to make the tournament an annual affair that will rotate through the districts with the aim of giving back to charities.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaluti Mountain Cement was started five years ago by ntate Lebona Lephema, his vision was to give back to Basotho because we are here as the Lephema family (and) Executive Transport because of Basotho,\u201d Lehlohonolo Lephema said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s only right that we give back to Basotho,\u201d he added<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are a company that produces cement, bricks and paving. This is our fifth year anniversary and it\u2019s a big one for us as Maluti Mountain Cement. We want to be the biggest producers of cement in the country. \u201d The Berea Charity Cup is the MMC\u2019s first foray into sports.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe sponsorship for the tournament came because we wanted to see what we can do for the community and what we can do to elevate or change the district,\u201d Lephema said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have other programmes that we do in the country; we thought about what we can do this year that is different from building a house, then we received a request from Lioli,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Lephema said the Berea Charity Cup is just the beginning of MMC\u2019s footprints in football and the company is still going to do a lot that will change football and other sporting codes.<\/p>\n

Lephema said MMC wants to host more tournaments in Berea and the company is currently building an orphanage in Berea which is set to be handed over once it is completed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to give a different entertainment that will uplift the society which is the most important thing to change the narrative that on October 4 we celebrate independence in some ways,\u201d Lephema said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are going to watch four teams play; we are going to laugh, talk about the game and eventually it will change the country little by little.\u201d<\/p>\n
