Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>In a bid to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in the Kingdom of Lesotho, a significant preliminary session was convened. The session brought together key figures from the government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).<\/p>\n

The Principal Secretaries of the Ministries of Information, Communication, Science, Technology and Innovation and Trade, Industry, Business Development and Tourism joined forces with the UNDP representative to explore the potential avenues for growth in these vital sectors.<\/p>\n

The session held with the goal of charting a path toward a more prosperous and innovative future for Lesotho is a testament to the commitment of the nation to harness its resources and talent for sustainable development.<\/p>\n

Lesotho, a small but vibrant country located within the borders of South Africa has shown great potential for innovation and entrepreneurship. With a diverse cultural heritage and a growing population, the country seeks to capitalize on its strengths to create economic opportunities for its people.<\/p>\n

The Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communication, Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr. Kanono Ramashamole emphasized the role of technology and communication infrastructure in driving innovation.<\/p>\n

Mr. Ramashamole stressed that effective communication is a cornerstone for any innovation-driven economy and that Lesotho should be well-equipped in this regard.<\/p>\n

He said to create opportunities for youth, his ministry through the Lesotho National Broadcasting Services (LNBS) has opened opportunities for Basotho youth to submit their innovative ways in terms of documentaries and television shows.<\/p>\n

He therefore urged youth entrepreneurs to be unique, avoid overthinking and be willing to take risks towards the success of their business ideas. On behalf of the Ministry of Trade, the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police, Mr.<\/p>\n

Moshe Mosaase highlighted the need for a conducive environment for entrepreneurship. Mr. Mosase pointed out the importance of trade policies that encourage local businesses, attract investments, and facilitate trade with neighbouring countries.<\/p>\n

He said the government through the Basotho Enterprises Development Corporation (BEDCO) has introduced programs that are aimed at assisting youth in different aspects of entrepreneurship, urging youth to register with the corporation to access such opportunities.<\/p>\n

The UNDP Resident Representative, Dr Jacqueline Saline Olweya in her address, commended Lesotho\u2019s commitment to exploring innovation and entrepreneurship. Dr Olweya stressed UNDP\u2019s readiness to support the nation in its endeavours, offering expertise and resources to help unlock the country\u2019s potential.<\/p>\n

During the session, participants discussed several key areas of interest, including education and skills development, access to financing for start-ups and the development of innovation hubs.<\/p>\n

These are critical components in fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation. As the preliminary session drew to a close, there was a shared sense of optimism and purpose among the attendees.<\/p>\n

Lesotho\u2019s journey towards embracing innovation and entrepreneurship is just beginning, but with the collaboration of government officials and international partners, it is a journey filled with potential.<\/p>\n

The session serves as an important milestone in Lesotho\u2019s commitment to creating a conducive environment for innovation and entrepreneurship. It is a signal to the world that this small African nation is eager to harness its potential for a brighter future.<\/p>\n

The three-day conference also debated on the issue of exploitation of innovators, stating that there should be laws that govern intellectual properties.<\/p>\n
