Africa-Press<\/a> – Lesotho<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The recently established Commission of Inquiry which is going to investigate the controversy surrounding the allegedly botched solar systems and energy efficient equipment to the<\/p>\n

government has suspended its investigations. This is due to the pending case in the matter in the courts. These developments were revealed by the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology (MCST)<\/p>\n

on Wednesday this week. The government had allegedly entered into a solar supply deal running in the north of M2 billion with the Frazer Solar GMBH. The Frazer Solar GMBH<\/p>\n

were to supply the government with 350 000 solar lanterns, 40 000 SWHs equipment (Solar Water Heating) to replace electric geysers and about 1, 5 million LED light (Light Emitting Diode) which are energy efficient.<\/p>\n

Solar Frazer had sued the government for alleged breach of contract and it is seeking damages running to the tune of M850 million. Meanwhile the government has filed a motion of<\/p>\n

intention to oppose. The case is ongoing at the High Court of Gauteng in South Africa. Pursuant to section 3(1) of the Public Inquiries Act, 1994 the Prime Minister (PM) Dr Moeketsi<\/p>\n

Majoro has set up Commission of Inquiry which will among others investigate how the Frazer Solar company was introduced in the country and the role of those<\/p>\n

alleged to have signed the supply contract and whether there was compliance with the laws of the country. Also, the parliament\u2019s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has suspended its investigations into the<\/p>\n

matter following the Attorney General\u2019s letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly to ask the aforesaid committee to suspend its sittings in this matter.<\/p>\n

After completing its investigations, the Commission will submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the PM. Its members are: the High Court Judge who will be its Chairperson, Justice Molefi Makara, and its two members are: the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Hon. Mohlabi Tsekoa and Advocate Sekake Malebanye.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
