Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Hindi Speaking Union, falling under the aegis of the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage, organised, today, a Hindi Poetry Recitation Competition for the age group 18-40 years old, at the World Hindi Secretariat (WHS) in Phoenix.<\/p>\n

After the competition, an award ceremony was held in the presence of the Acting President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Marie Cyril Eddy Boisse\u0301zon; the Secretary General of the WHS, Dr Madhouree Ramdharee; the Director General of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Mr Rajcoomar Rampertab and; the President of the Hindi Speaking Union, Dr Oudaye Narain Gangoo, and other personalities.<\/p>\n

The winners of the competition received a shield, poetry books, and, in order of merit, cash prizes as follows: First Prize: Rs 5,000; Second Prize: Rs 4,000 and Third Prize: Rs 3,000.<\/p>\n

In his address, Mr Boissezon dwelt on the significance of poetry, highlighting that it acts as a catalyst for dialogue and peace. Poetry, he underlined, represents our shared values around the world and can be used as a powerful teaching tool that will enable students to improve their literacy.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, as the competition focused on Hindi poetry, the Acting President reiterated the importance of putting poetry and Hindi language at the forefront of education and bringing it to a wider audience.<\/p>\n

The Acting President emphasised that Hindi poetry carries the cultural heritage of the Republic of India and acts as a means for the traditions, stories, and values of the country to be passed on from generation to generation worldwide.<\/p>\n

On that score, he averred that there is a lot of work to be done in the field of Hindi poetry so that future generations show more interest in this regard.<\/p>\n

Mr Boissezon hence commended the initiative of the Hindi Speaking Union for the organisation of this competition as it will encourage the youths to connect to the exploration of all that is beautiful in this world through poetry.<\/p>\n
