Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>On Saturday, activists from Moviment Graffitti and Youth for Palestine, together with the Embassy for the State of Palestine in Malta, joined forces and staged a symbolic action at G\u0127adira Bay where they called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.<\/p>\n

The powerful action saw activists lying on the beach wrapped in burial shrouds and Palestinian keffiyehs. They also called for an end to 75 years of \u201cIsraeli colonisation of Palestine.
\nThe action was held at G\u0127adira to highlight how the scenic Mediterranean beaches of Gaza and their surroundings have become the stage for the systemic massacre of Palestinian children, women and men by the Israeli state.<\/p>\n

Following the 7 October military incursion by Hamas, Israel has pounded Gaza vowing to eliminate Hamas. Since then, over 27,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza according to the Hamas-run health ministry. Most of whom are women and children.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the past four months, Israel has bombed all areas of Gaza, launched a ground invasion which butchered any Palestinian in sight, and enforced a siege that blocks basic needs from reaching Palestinians,\u201d the activists said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIsrael is bombing and shooting at schools, hospitals, refugee camps, churches and mosques, leading to an almost total collapse of the healthcare and aid systems,\u201d the activists reminded.<\/p>\n

The blockade on Gaza was also highlighted by those gathered at G\u0127adira Bay, underlining that the population in the enclave was suffering from starvation and disease.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat happened over the past four months in Gaza is extreme, but not surprising.<\/p>\n

It is the continuation of the long-standing Israeli project to expel Palestinians from their land and to keep those who manage to remain under harsh oppression,\u201d they said, noting that the atrocities had been enabled through the provision of military, economic and political support to Israel by the United States and many European countries.<\/p>\n

The activists observed that declarations in solidarity with Palestine by representatives of the Maltese government at the local level do not always match with Malta\u2019s actions on the international stage.<\/p>\n

\u201cMalta has so far failed to recognise that the current Israeli aggression amounts to genocide, and although it has called for a permanent ceasefire, it failed to do so within international institutions,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

The organisations and the embassy also called on the government to close Malta\u2019s airspace and sea to weapons of war, as well as urged them to support the Palestinian cause within European and international institutions.<\/p>\n
