{"id":47786,"date":"2024-11-04T21:23:03","date_gmt":"2024-11-04T21:23:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/lesotho\/all-news\/us-presidential-candidates-have-no-clear-africa-policies"},"modified":"2024-11-04T22:17:50","modified_gmt":"2024-11-04T22:17:50","slug":"us-presidential-candidates-have-no-clear-africa-policies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/lesotho\/all-news\/us-presidential-candidates-have-no-clear-africa-policies","title":{"rendered":"US presidential candidates have no clear Africa policies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span><b>Voters in the United States on Tuesday go to the polls to choose the 47th president of what is the world\u2019s largest economic and military power.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>It is an election that is being closely watched around the world.<\/p>\n<p>The contest between Democrat candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Republican\u2019s Donald Trump, a former president, is very tight.<\/p>\n<p>While the outcome will have global consequences, including for Africa, neither candidate has expressed clear plans for engagement with the continent.<\/p>\n<p>In Trump\u2019s first term as president, his approach to Africa ranged from contempt to neglect.<\/p>\n<p>He made no trips to the continent and showed little interest in its major issues such as climate change.<\/p>\n<p>Trump did, however, launch the Prosper Africa initiative to support American investors and the growing middle class across Africa.<\/p>\n<p>However, if re-elected, he is expected to focus his policies on national interests in line with his \u201cAmerica First\u201d mantra.<\/p>\n<p>While Harris toured three African countries in March 2023, she is said to be no more ambitious for the continent than her rival.<\/p>\n<p>It is widely believed she will continue incumbent President Joe Biden&#8217;s Africa policy.<\/p>\n<p>He also has paid little attention to the continent, although he still plans to visit Angola in early December, just weeks before the end of his term.<\/p>\n<p>Biden has, however, been determined to strengthen economic partnerships with the continent.<\/p>\n<p><b>Source: Africanews<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About Lesotho Follow Africa-Press<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Lesotho.
