Africa-Press<\/a> – Lesotho<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) has announced that there is a probability that load shedding could be expected throughout the country due to the ongoing strike action by employees of South Africa\u2019s power utility, Eskom. This was through an urgent notice from LEC.<\/p>\n

LEC buys 72 Megawatts of electricity from the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority\u2019s \u2018Muela Hydro-power Station and it augments Lesotho\u2019s daily 156 MW requirements by importing the rest from South Africa\u2019s Eskom and Electricidade de Mocambique (EDM).<\/p>\n

Also through another media in SA, Power Utility Eskom on Thursday last week warned that an illegal strike by the employees would have an impact on the power supply.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis precaution is made due to the ongoing industrial action by Eskom employees in South Africa which could possibly affect the normal power supply through the transmission lines from RSA,\u201d LEC says in the notice.<\/p>\n

LEC continues to show that in the case of any eventual power cuts or load shedding in South Africa, depending on severity, the company has received some degree of assurance that the power lines feeding our country through Maseru would not be significantly affected.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, LEC shows that even if the industrial action was initially announced to be for just one day, LEC neither guarantees the duration of this situation nor its impact on our power supply.<\/p>\n

\u201cManagement highly regrets the inconvenience that this may cause as the problem is beyond LEC\u2019s Management control and further communication will continually be issued out should there be any changes that warrant further communication,\u201d it reads.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
