Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Lesotho Correctional Services Deputy Commissioner Matingoe Phamotse, articulates that the reason why inmates engage in gangsterism (Bonomoro) in prison cells, is mainly to destabilize the roots and foundation of the administration of Correctional Services.<\/p>\n

Phamotse noted this during a day\u2019s session held for inmates by the Ministry of Law and Justice in partnership with the Sesotho Media and Development, funded by the European Union, aimed at educating them on Human rights amid the 16 days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.<\/p>\n

He further pleaded with inmates to refrain from engaging in sexual activities among themselves to avoid diseases brought by the act, to stop assaulting each other physically or emotionally by bullying others who cannot defend themselves, as doing so is violation of human rights, noting human rights go hand in hand with responsibilities.<\/p>\n

Phamotse further indicated that there is a reported case from one facility of an inmate who has been sleeping without a blanket for more than 2 months, after being taken from him by other inmates, and concluded by urging them to do to others what they would have done unto them.<\/p>\n
