Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>In its efforts to mitigate the immediate impact of accidents, the Institute of Development Management (IDM) has introduced a new course which is envisaged to equip<\/p>\n

students with the life-saving skills. The IDM has introduced a one year certificate course in Emergency Medical Care which is set to commence in August intake later this year.<\/p>\n

The course is aimed to \u201cprovide students with systematic and coherent introduction to the broad knowledge, principles, concepts and problem-solving techniques of<\/p>\n

Pre-hospital emergency medical care\u201d. In an interview with Informative Newspaper, the IDM Country Director Dr. Ret\u0161elisitsoe Nko said the course has been accredited by the Council on Higher Education<\/p>\n

(CHE), a statutory body mandated to accredit programmes and promote quality assurance in the tertiary institutions. Dr.<\/p>\n

Nko further mentioned that the course was borne out of the institute\u2019s market research and survey on the immediate governmental needs and national development priorities.<\/p>\n

He said while they were about to launch the program last year, there was an outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic which he said made the course to become more<\/p>\n

relevant. The IDM Country Director said the course will accommodate the training of trainers and the people working within the emergency rescue field.<\/p>\n

He added that the course\u2019s relevance also extend to people within the family level to equip them with the essential skills such as performing Cardiopulmonary<\/p>\n

Resuscitation (CPR) common in both medical and paramedical fields. Dr. Nko said the course is divided into both theoretical and practical learning adding that for experiential learning the IDM boasts laboratories well equipped<\/p>\n

for students to perform simulation exercises adding that it can be enrolled on full-time or part-time basis. He also mentioned that after completion the students will be certified and accredited by the medical institutions.<\/p>\n
