Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The European Union (EU) ambassador to Lesotho, Mr. Christian Manahl says Lesotho\u2019s international partners are willing to support Lesotho during the process of reforms in to root out the pool of crisis in Lesotho.<\/p>\n

This he said at the European Day 2018 celebration that was held at European Commission buildings Maseru yesterday. \u201cA country with more than a half of people living under the poverty line, with almost one third unemployed and with record rates of HIV and TB is in crisis,\u201d said Manahl.<\/p>\n

He went on to emphasize that it is now up to Basotho political, religious, traditional and social leaders of Lesotho to work together in order to lay the foundation for a better future and stability for this country.<\/p>\n

\u201cInternational partners such as; the UN, AU, SADC, China, South Africa, US, the European Union and others, will stand by in support for all your efforts.<\/p>\n

But what we cannot do is to do the reforms for you; you have to find a way to do it within your own culture and tradition,\u201d he said. Manahl made this remarks comparing Lesotho\u2019s history to that of European countries.<\/p>\n

He referred to Lesotho crisis back to the time of Basotho founder King Moshoeshoe I while he was battling it out against other nations to save Basotho and the country. He also made reference on army coups and many other political instability cases that occurred in the country.<\/p>\n

He said 09th of May (EU day) marks the same date in 1950 when French foreign Minister Robert Schuman called on the nations of Europe to unite in order to do away with inter country wars.<\/p>\n

This day he said is regarded as the founding moment of the EU, which has brought together more than 500 million people of different languages and cultures, \u201cand more so, peoples and nations which have spent better part of their history fighting each other, and fighting the rest of the world.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, on behalf of the government of Lesotho, Minister of Law and Constitutional Affairs Hon. Lebohang Hlaele complimented EU for the day that marks great achievements.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hail this remarkable achievement that different nations\u2019 with diverse identities and cultures have come together and given birth to this strong undeniable force that has and still continues to have a lasting impact in livelihoods not only of the members of the EU, but to the international community as well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
