Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Lesotho\u2019s first national museum and art gallery which has been under construction since 2014 and is expected to be completed in three years to come is said to play a crucial role in the lives of Basotho.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Culture held a one-day workshop with stakeholders with the aim to implement strategies on the operations of the museum.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the workshop, the Director of Culture in the ministry, Ms \u2018Mat\u0161osane Molibeli said they needed contribution from other stakeholders to ensure that plans go straight from the starting point of strategizing on the museum.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe national museum and art gallery will help us deal with losses of the very fibre of our heritage. For years, we have been losing many of our artefacts through vandalism and illegal export.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is for both students in all levels of education to learn about heritage since it is significant for each Mosotho,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Molibeli further said the museum will focus mainly on the conservation, exhibition interpretation research promotion and marketing the country\u2019s cultural heritage both locally and internationally.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday we are working hard as stakeholders to see to it that the museum operates for the history of Basotho.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Mr Khensani Malulake, a Representative of Dijan Design said the engagement of stakeholders is a good strategy to seek different opinions to ensure that Lesotho\u2019s museum is of international standard.<\/p>\n

He mentioned that there will be series of workshops to ensure the museum operates effectively. Some of the stakeholders present at the workshop were the National University of Lesotho (NUL) and media representative.<\/p>\n
